Here is what Key Club is all about!

Our mission: Key Club is an international student-led organization that provides members with opportunities to perform service, build character, and develop leadership.

Our values: Leadership, character building, caring, inclusiveness.

Our vision: To develop competent, capable and caring leaders through the vehicle of service.

Our pledge: "I pledge, on my honor, to uphold the objects of Key Club International; to build my home, school and community; to serve my nation and God; and combat all forces which tend to undermine these institutions."

What is Key Club?

Key Club is a community service organization that is sponsored by the Downtown Kiwanis Club. The "KEY" in Key Club does not actually stand for Kiwanis Educating Youth! Instead it stands for the key, outstanding players not only in our clubs, but in our communities. Our service year begins in April and ends the following March.

How do I join?

Come to any Tuesday meeting (2:35-3:00 P.M.) and pay your dues to our treasurer, Naysha Flores. Costs are only $35.00, which includes your dues and the present club t-shirt.

What are my responsibilities as a club member?

You must complete five hours of community service per month to remain an active member (officers must complete ten hours of service per month). If you get five hours in one month, and are already caught up on previous months, than your extra hours will count for future months.

There are numerous activities from which to choose, and you can select them from the "Upcoming Events" list on the back of every Key Club agenda, on the list on the glass right outside the library, or on this website. Sign up sheets for projects are located at each meeting and on the glass outside of the library. Service opportunities continue throughout the summer months because Key Club is a year-round club!

If I do not complete my service obligations, what happens?

The club secretary (Kennedee Thorne/So Hyun Lee) will notify you if you have not met the five-hour requirement, and you will have until the end of the following month to make up the five hours in addition to the current month's five-hour requirement. At the end of the second month, if you are still behind, the secretary will remove your name from the active member roster until you make up your service obligations. Also, if you go two months in a row (not including June and July) with zero hours, you will not be eligible for Convention. This is only counted since the time that you joined Key Club by paying your dues or if you were a past years member.

What must I do to be eligible for District Convention?

Convention is at the end of the current Key Club year and to be eligible for Convention you must have at least 50 hours before Spring Break in order to attend. You cannot have gotten zero hours two months in a row (excluding June and July).
